The Bladenboro Police Department took another step forward in the transition to adding the use of body cameras to their tool kit. The officers spent Wednesday morning learning how to operate the body cameras and how to download and save their videos.

Anatoly Khen, of VieVu, lead the class and said the camera is both rugged and durable.

“It can capture a lot of information,” said Khen.

He said the particular camera that Bladenboro Police Officers will use is simple for officers to operate and can endure exposure to both snow and rain.

“The camera will give them an opportunity to have a third unbiased witness at the scene,” said Khen.

Chief Chris Hunt said he chose to implement the use of body cameras because he felt it would enhance officer safety and also enhance the trust of the community.

“It will be a good tool for collecting evidence and also will help us to maintain a better record of our evidence,” said Chief Hunt.

He said it can also be used as a tool to help identify a potential suspect.

Chief Hunt said the camera the officers will be using can record for 12 hours continuously and records in high definition. He said the camera can also record at night and has an infrared sensor for low light and night recording.

He said the camera cannot be utilized with any other type of software.

“If you don’t have the software from the company, you can’t download (the video footage),” said Chief Hunt.
