Bladenboro Town HallThe Bladenboro Town Board met on Monday and discussed the possibility of another poultry processing company locating at the Bladenboro Industrial Park.

Town Administrator, John O’Daniel, said the company, which was not named, has requested the town to review its sewer capacity to see if it will support another industry being added. Currently, the town is permitted by the State of North Carolina to discharge 500,000 gallons of wastewater per day. O’Daniel said the amount of water discharged by the town each day fluctuates based on whether or not Carroll Poultry is operating.

“We’re looking back at our data and flow information,” said O’Daniel.

He said currently, Carroll Poultry is not operating. O’Daniel said when the company does operate, they are releasing more water than their permit allows. He added the company is working to try to resolve the issues with the wastewater discharge.

The board voted to issue an additional fine against Carroll Poultry in the amount of $6,825 for another violation of their wastewater permit. O’Daniel said the company had three daily maximum flow violations in May 2018.

In other business:

*The board requested Town Attorney, Alan Maynard, to issue a more detailed billing statement. O’Daniel said Maynard agreed to the request.

*The board approved the addition of a fire pit on the town’s green space by Delores Holcomb. O’Daniel said the fire pit will be added for a class reunion and will remain in place for future use by the town. The board requested Ms. Holcomb to acquire a burn permit from the fire department before the fire pit is lit.

*The board met in closed session to discuss a personnel matter. In open session, the board voted to hire Daniel Lee as a Police Officer.

*The board discussed the use of the marquis board in the downtown. O’Daniel said the marquis is utilized for announcements by non-profit groups, churches and to announce community events. O’Daniel said the board modified the policy to allow businesses to announce grand openings.
