FAYETTEVILLE – Cape Fear Valley Blood Donor Center is extending their hours through today, as it braces for the blood shortages that coincide with inclement weather. The center will be open until 6 p.m.

The center needs to ensure an adequate supply of blood for local patients at Cape Fear Valley Health. The blood bank has to prepare for an influx of additional patients who include people who have fled from their region.

The blood bank has been suffering from a critical blood shortage since June 18. The tropical storm and Hurricane Dorian expected to impact the area will decrease local donations and the national blood supply, further depleting the local supply.

Superior Bakery and Buffalo Wild Wings have donated refreshments for donors who give at the center, 3357 Village Drive in the Bordeaux Shopping Center.

Chick-fil-A is giving donors coupons for free chicken sandwiches at their Ramsey Street location. Donors earn a T-shirt. All while supplies last.

Type O positive and type O negative blood types are especially needed, as they’re currently in short supply.
