The 2015 edition of the Blue Monday Shad Fry continued as usual Monday at US Lock & Dam #1.  Fresh shad and shad roe with the trimmings and hundreds of folks were anxious to carry on the tasty tradition.

According to those who know, the event is at least 65 years old and Monday, Jesse Blanks, Jerry Graham and Wendell Brown and numerous helpers were busy, setting up the cookers and making sure everything was in order.  Those gathered were ready to enjoy the food, fellowship, music, plus fun for the youngsters.

It all began around 1950 by the late Bernard Carter, Chester Graham and Archie Graham and as one ‘passed on’, others have ‘stepped up’ to make sure that the event continues on the Monday following Easter every year.

In 2013, Rep. William Brisson and Rep. Ken Waddell introduced legislation making it an official state event, “The Official Blue Monday Shad Fry” in the East Arcadia community of Bladen County.
