RALEIGH – The N.C. Board of Agriculture will hold its quarterly meeting Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. in the Martin Building at the N.C. State Fairgrounds.

The board will take up the following items:

*Begin the process of adopting by reference new federal food-safety rules.
*Begin the process to readopt state forestry rules that were deemed necessary following periodic rules review.
*Adopt permanent rules for the Animal Shelter Support Fund. The rules define eligible expenses and establish application guidelines. Temporary rules have been in place since last November.
*Consider a request from the NCDA&CS Plant Industry Division to modify the sampling procedure for bags of fertilizer.
*Two new members of the board will be sworn in at the meeting: Jose Calderon of Wake County and Scott Tyson of Nash County. They were appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper.

The Board of Agriculture is a policymaking body that adopts regulations for many of the programs administered by the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Members are appointed by the governor. The commissioner of agriculture serves as chairman of the board.
