NCDARALEIGH – The N.C. Board of Agriculture will hold its quarterly meeting Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 2 p.m. in the Maritime Building at the N.C. Ports Authority in Wilmington. The meeting is open to the public.

The board will act on the following items:

*A request from the N.C. Tomato Growers Association to conduct a referendum asking growers to continue a self-assessment of $20 per acre on harvested commercial tomato acreage. The assessment supports research, education and promotion of North Carolina-grown tomatoes.

*A request from the American Dairy Association of North Carolina to conduct a referendum asking producers whether they want to continue using a portion of their checkoff program to support milk and dairy promotion and education programs in North Carolina.

*A request from the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services to add new tests to its suite of agronomic testing services.

*Continue the periodic review of rules administered by the department. A state law enacted in 2013 requires agencies to analyze and determine the necessity of their rules.

*Readopt rules the review process previously found to be necessary with substantive public interest. The rules pertain to food protection, and weights and measures.
