Bladen County School Board Recognizes SRO retirement
By: Valerie Newton
Elizabethtown, NC – At the August Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. Robert Taylor recognized one of the school districts School Resource Officers upon his recent retirement from the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department.
Sergeant Warren Holder served the Bladen County school system as the Lead SRO for the past 12 years.
Sgt. Holder chose the Law Enforcement career specifically to become a School Resource Officer. After just a year and a half as an officer with the Bladen County Sheriff’s Department, Holder was promoted to Sergeant and assigned as the Lead SRO for Bladen County Schools.
Sgt. Holder says his reason for wanting to become an SRO was “helping the children and making sure everyone is safe.”  He added, “If it is my child in harm’s way, what would I want somebody to do to protect them. So I treat all the children as if they are my child and I protect them.”
Bladen County Schools and the Bladen County Board of Education thanked Sgt. Holder for his dedication to the children and also congratulated him on his retirement.
Upon presenting a plaque to Sgt. Holder, Dr. Taylor recited an inspirational quote about law enforcement officers, “In the law enforcement life there is a fellowship which lasts long after the uniforms are hung up in the back of the closet. So what we wish for you is that whenever you ease into retirement, in your heart you never forget for one moment that ‘Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called children of God,’ and you are still a member of the greatest fraternity the world has ever known – that of a law enforcement officer.”
