Spread the love

By Cara Beth Lewis

I love a good “beach read.” To me, “People We Meet on Vacation” by Emily Henry is the perfect beach read. This month, the Pastries and Print Book Club at Bladen County Library is enjoying and discussing this contemporary romance novel by Emily Henry.

“Two best friends. Ten summer trips. One last chance to fall in love.”

This book will have you dreaming of summer days. With all the detailed imagery included by the author, you will practically feel the rays of sunshine on your face and the wind in your hair as you read this 2021 romance novel.

If you are a spontaneous adventurer with no desire of being tied down to one place, you will most likely relate to the female lead, Poppy. On the other hand, if you are meticulously organized and “predictable,” you may identify with Alex – Poppy’s longtime male best friend.

About the author:

Emily Henry is a New York Times best selling author. Henry is well known for “Beach Read” and “Book Lovers,” in addition to “People We Meet on Vacation.” According to goodreads.com, the young author lives and writes in Cincinnati.

Cara Beth’s Book Review:

I definitely identify as a reader – it is probably my favorite pastime. I typically go for suspenseful psychological thrillers and mysteries, but every once in a while I enjoy a romance novel, which I like to call a “palate cleanser” between books. “People We Meet on Vacation” was definitely a great book even though it is not the genre I read most often. I would not consider it one of those books that you just cannot put down, but the plot is interesting and you will become invested in the characters and their relationship, for sure. I would rate this book an eight out of ten overall.

Book Club!

Pastries and Print Book Club meets at Bladen County Public Library in Elizabethtown on the third Monday of each month in the library meeting room at 3 pm. Library Director Sheila Nance said, “We enjoy a post-reading group discussion along with hot tea and refreshments.” The group is led by Library Assistant Kim Wilson, who also runs Bladen County Book Mobile, according to Nance. The group welcomes all adults.

“People We Meet on Vacation” can be purchased on Amazon, at Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, and wherever books are sold. The book is also available for checkout at Bladen County Public Library.
