The Boost the Boro meeting was held this past Tuesday and the members were busy making plans.
Don White, chair of the committee, said, “We want to give back to the community, so the community can see that Boost the ‘Boro is about helping the community.”
The group discussed a second expansion of the Farmer’s Market in town. Rebecca Hester gave an update on the grant she is helping write to solicit funds for the expansion.
An outdoor covered structure, with electrical and plumbing in the back of the market, is one item on the agenda in the grant application.
White addressed the need for a revenue making component to the Farmer’s Market. The group made a motion to have a Spring Festival with entertainment, food, and rides to help raise funds.
Shane Todd announced the company with the carnival rides agreed to come and set up in Bladenboro for the Spring Fest as well as the Beast Fest if the dates can be worked out.
More details about the Spring Festival will be discussed by the event committee and then brought back to the Boost the ‘Boro at the next meeting.
Bobby Ludlum presented the idea to have the memorial monument now housed at the armory in Bladenboro moved to the Farmer’s Market and to have the monument refurbished.
White also announced the Farmer’s Market is closed for the winter months, but will re-open sometime in the spring.
Sunday and Dan Allen gave an update on the Miss Bladenboro Pageant.
“You are getting your money’s worth out of these young ladies.” Sunday said.
According to both Sunday and Dan, Miss Bladenboro, Haven Cashwell, and Princess of Bladenboro, Anna Grace Allen  will be competing in the Miss North Carolina Scholarship pageant in June of this year.
The pageant is still looking for sponsors and supporters. For more information about the pageant you may visit their website at, http://www.missbladenboro.com/ or visit their Facebook page.
