Boost-the-Boro1This past Tuesday evening was another night of planning for the Boost of Boro members. Improvements and more events for this town have been noticed and it seems the best is yet to come for Bladenboro.

Dan Allen, with Four County Electric presented the group with a check to sponsor the Beast Feast. “You all are doing some great things over here. The fact that you all are using local people, that are not elected, to create a common bond and do great things is really amazing.”

Boost-the-Boro2The Annual Beast Fest will be held on Saturday, October 31st, 2015. Boost the Boro is still accepting sponsors for the festival. Anyone wanting to be a platinum, gold, or silver sponsor may submit their checks by September 25th in order to be on the festival’s banner.

The committee plans to have Round Branch Male Church Chorus, Black Water Rhythm & Blues Band, Jim Quick and The Coast Line Band, Johnny and Earl from Lizard Lick and the Lizard Lick truck as entertainment at the festival. They are also planning a Howl-O-Ween contest for pets and a costume contest for children. The plan is to have rides, inflatables, horse and carriage rides, ponies and camels rides, and a car show for new and classic cars with trophies to be won.

There will also be a Beast Fest 5K Fun Run and Walk starting at 8:30 am October 31st to kick off the Beast Fest. More details about the annual festival and the new 5K will come shortly. There will be vendors set up there offering food and crafts. If you would like to be a vendor you may visit their website www.borobooster.org for a vendor application.

The committee is organizing downtown projects to improve the appeal of Bladenboro. One downtown project is to make more parking for the Bladenboro Farmer’s Market and local businesses. The parking lot will be across the street from the market according to those in the meeting. This project is scheduled to begin in October.

Another project is in the works to to have a historical mural painted in the courtyard between businesses on Martin Luther King Jr. Street with some foliage planted, and seating available. Kathy Bunn, a local artist, did the drawing for the committee with some historical sites. Some more historical buildings are planned to be added. There is no date set on when the painting and planting in the court yard will begin.

Guest speakers Dan Allen, Sunday Allen, John Ruffin and Karen Ruffin also gave a report on the Miss Bladenboro Scholarship Pageant to the committee. Sunday told the group about the great scholarship opportunities the pageant brings to the ladies that compete. Karen gave a report of 22 different service projects the Pageant Court of 9 young ladies and their families did this past year. The Miss Bladenboro Scholarship Pageant will be held this year on October 17th. If you would like to be a sponsor of the non-profit pageant, or find out more information, you may visit their website at, www.missbladenboro.com.
