DUNN – Seniors Malcolm Bolden, Yontee Dobson and Zamar Lewis sparked a 16-10 4th quarter surge that carried East Bladen to a 49-43 boys’ basketball victory Friday night over Midway in the Southeastern Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

The teams were knotted 33-33 after 3 periods, but Bolden and Dobson sank 3 free throws each in the final quarter and both of them tossed in a basket. Lewis powered inside for a pair of baskets, and senior Jacob Nixon added a bucket as the Eagles pulled away for the win. East Bladen made 6 of 9 foul shots in the quarter.

Junior Lee Barnes blistered the nets with four 3-point baskets in the 1st half and tacked on 2 free throws to lead the Eagle scoring with 14 points. Dobson, Lewis, Bolden and sophomore Rodney Lacewell threw in a basket each, and Nixon drilled in a 3-point shot to keep East Bladen even 25-25 at halftime.

Lacewell, Lewis, Dobson and sophomore Dominick Collins popped in a basket each in the 3rd period as the teams matched points and remained tied.

Dobson followed Barnes on the Eagle scoring list with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Lewis dominated the boards with 13 rebounds, 8 points and 3 blocked shots. Bolden totaled 7 points, 2 steals and 2 assists.

Nixon finished with 5 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. Collins dished out 4 assists, and Lacewell blocked 2 shots and scored 4 points.

Jamir McCrae topped the Midway scoring with 13 points, and Casey Culbreth followed with 11 points.

Coach Aking Elting’s Eagles improved to 7-1 overall and will play Topsail on December 28th in the Hoggard Holiday Classic.
