East Bladen’s Eagles bombed the nets with twelve 3-point baskets en route to a 60-55 Four County Conference boys basketball victory at Union Friday night.

Junior Ethan Hines fired in five 3-point baskets and led the Eagles with 17 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Ethan Hines also iced the game by making 2 free throws with 4 seconds left in the game.

Junior Denzel Johnson drained four 3-point shots – 3 in the first half and finished with 13 points. Senior Jermaine Robinson buried a pair of second half 3-point shots and totaled 8 points in the game. Freshman Adonis Avery drilled in a first quarter 3-pointer.

Senior Dayvon Powell drove for a pair of first quarter lay-ups and reached double-figures with 10 points. Ethan Hines delivered a trio of 3-point shots in the quarter, Johnson connected on two 3-balls, and Avery hit one as East Bladen took a 23-17 lead.

Ethan Hines sent assists to Powell and junior Eian Hines for lay-ups in the second period. Johnson threw in a 3-pointer, and Robinson put back a rebound for a 32-25 Eagle lead. Senior Chris Cromartie’s lay-up gave East a 34-30 halftime lead.

The Spartans opened the second half with an 11-4 spurt to take a 41-38 lead. Ethan Hines and Robinson connected on 3-point shots that rallied the Eagles to within 45-44 at the quarter break.

The long-distance barrage continued in the final period as Ethan Hines, Johnson and Robinson pumped in 3-point shots and Powell drove across the lane for a basket and a 55-49 East lead with 4:28 remaining.

Union closed to within 56-52, but Cromartie turned an Ethan Hines assist into a lay-up and a 58-52 lead with 1:45 on the clock. The Spartans pulled to within 58-55 with 33 seconds left, but Ethan Hines came up with the loose ball after a wild scrum and was fouled.

Samuel Crumpler topped the Union scoring with 18 points, and Donta Chavious and Juwawn Newkirk added 14 points each.

Coach Ken Cross’ Eagles improved to 2-4 in the league and 5-9 overall. The Eagles will travel to West Bladen Tuesday night.
