Seniors Farrell Murchison and Larrell Murchison combined for 23 points Tuesday night to lead East Bladen to a 68-38 Four County Conference boys’ basketball victory at Union.
The Murchison twins, who just signed last week to play football at Winston-Salem State, are better known for their exploits on the football gridiron. However, Farrell bombed in a first-period 3-point shot and made all seven of his foul shots to lead the Eagles with 12 points.
His brother Larrell pounded the backboards for a career-high 11 points. “Larrell really played good,” said Eagle Coach Ken Cross. “He got several baskets on put-backs.”
Senior Monterro Graham drained a pair of 3-point shots and finished with 10 points for East Bladen. Junior teammate Jermaine Robinson nailed a pair of 3-point shots and totaled 8 points. Junior center Chris Cromartie also worked the paint for 8 points.
Sophmore Eian Hines tallied 7 points for the winners, and guard Denzel Johnson buried a pair of 3-point shots in the final quarter for his 6 points.
The 3-point baskets by Farrell Murchison and Robinson sparked the Eagles to an 18-7 first quarter lead. Graham’s second quarter 3-ball helped East Bladen stay in front 32-19 at halftime.
Graham connected again from long range in the third quarter as the Eagles rode a 17-6 blitz to a 49-25 lead. Two 3-pointers by Johnson and another one from Robinson padded the East Bladen lead in the final period.
The Eagles improve to 5-8 in the league and 10-12 overall.
