Dayvon Powell and Jermaine Robinson combined for 35 points Monday night as East Bladen’s Eagles rolled to a 69-37 non-conference boys basketball victory over visiting East Columbus.

Powell led the Eagles with 18 points and 6 rebounds. Robinson followed with 17 points, and junior Ethan Hines contributed 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 steals.

Senior Ty McMillian added 7 points, and sophmore Sincere Smith tallied 6 points and 5 rebounds. Senior Chris Cromartie and junior Derrick Burney grabbed 6 rebounds each as the Eagles outrebounded the Gators 41-28.

“We have improved a little bit from last week,” said Eagle Coach Ken Cross. “We will find out how much Friday.” The Eagles, now 1-1, have a return match at St. Pauls with the Bulldogs who defeated them last week.

The Eagles exploded out of the gate with a 9-0 run against the Gators. Ethan Hines connected from 15 feet then fed a cutting Powell for a lay-up. Cromartie hit a free throw, Ethan Hines flipped in a runner, and Powell drove for another lay-up.

Another Powell lay-up, 2 free throws by Ethan Hines and one from Smith kept East Bladen in front 15-10 at the quarter break.

Robinson drilled a 3-pointer from the right wing, and Ethan Hines nailed a 3-ball from the left side to vault the Eagle lead to 21-10. Smith turned an Eian Hines assist into a lay-up, but a pair of lay-ups by the Gators Justin Chestnut narrowed the gap to 23-16.

Eian Hines bombed in a 3-pointer from the left wing, and Robinson drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Robinson banked in a runner to extend the East Bladen lead to 31-17 at halftime.

Cromartie converted a Powell feed into a lay-up to start the second half. Ethan Hines turned a steal into a lay-up, and Robinson sank 2 free throws. Three free throws from Powell and an Eian Hines steal and lay-up capped an 11-0 Eagle run that pushed the lead to 42-17.

McMillian banked in a 3-point shot, Robinson drove for a lay-up and added a free throw, and McMillian made 2 free throws that boosted the lead to 50-21 at the quarter break.

Powell powered in a lay-up and a rebound basket to begin the final quarter. Smith somehow hurled in a circus shot as he was knocked to the floor, and Robinson added a pair of lay-ups as the Eagle lead reached 61-31.

Demetrius Wooten banked in a runner, McMillian hit 2 free throws and Powell drove for another lay-up and the biggest Eagle lead at 67-31.

Shaheed Bellamy topped the Gator scoring with 11 points, and Alex Moore followed with 8 points.
