Juniors Eian Hines, Denzel Johnson and Ethan Hines combined for 55 points Monday night to lead East Bladen to a 70-58 Four County Conference boys basketball victory over visiting Pender.

 

Eian Hines poured in 23 points to lead the Eagle attack. Johnson followed with 17 points, and Ethan Hines finished with 15 points.

 

Both Hines twins bombed in 3-point shots in the first quarter as the Eagles jumped out to a 19-9 lead. Ethan Hines pumped in 7 points in the period, and Eian Hines tallied 5 points during the run.

 

Johnson drained a 3-point shot and lit up the scoreboard with 10 points in the second quarter, but the Patriots closed the gap to 30-26 at halftime.

 

Eian Hines shouldered the Eagle scoring load in the third quarter firing in 12 points as East Bladen stretched the lead to 52-44. Johnson added a pair of baskets in the quarter.

 

Johnson drilled a 3-point shot in the final period, but the Hines twins took charge as the Eagles pulled away. Ethan Hines drove for 4 lay-ups, and Eian Hines added two more baskets and a pair of free throws.

 

“We kept beating their press at the end,” said Eagle Coach Ken Cross. “They had a man chasing Denzel, and it helped open things up for Ethan and Eian to drive to the basket. I was happy with the way we handled their press.”

 

Junior Jarious Williams topped the Patriot scoring with 19 points.

 

East Bladen, now 1-2 in the Four County and 4-7 overall, will travel to Heide Trask Wednesday night for another conference game.
