East Bladen High SchoolEast Bladen’s Eagles exploded for 44 points in the second-half to claim a key 73-63 Four County Conference boys’ basketball victory at Midway Friday night.

“We played good defense, looked ahead and pushed the basketball,” said East Bladen Coach Ken Cross. “We got a lot of lay-ups and breakaways off of our defense.”

Junior Jermaine Robinson poured in 21 points to lead the Eagle scoring, and sophomore teammate Ethan Hines racked up 20 points. Senior Monterro Graham finished with 10 points, and senior Farrell Murchison chipped in with 9 points.

Ethan Hines threw in a couple of first period baskets as East Bladen grabbed an early 7-0 lead. However, the Raiders answered with an 11-3 spurt to edge ahead 11-10 at the quarter break.

Robinson, Ethan Hines and Denzel Johnson bombed in 3-point shots in the second quarter as East Bladen outscored the Raiders 19-16 to take a 29-27 halftime lead. Robinson fired in 7 points in the quarter, and Ethan Hines totaled 5 points in the period.

The Eagles piled up 25 points in the third quarter to open up a 54-42 lead. Robinson lit up the scoreboard with 8 points in the period, and Graham and Ethan Hines contributed 5 points each in the quarter, and Graham and sophomore Eian Hines nailed 3-point shots in the period.

Ethan Hines popped in 6 points in the final quarter as the Eagles held off a 21-19 Raider rally.

The victory evened East Bladen’s conference record at 4-4 and improved their overall mark to 9-8. East Bladen will host Clinton Tuesday night. Midway drops out of a first-place tie with Clinton and Heide Trask and is 5-3 in the league.
