ELIZABETHTOWN –Guard JaQuez McKoy fired in 16 points to lead Elizabethtown Middle to a 35-21 victory Tuesday night over Sampson Middle in a boys basketball scrimmage.

Both teams struggled to score for most of the first quarter before Zach Meares tossed in a basket to edge Elizabethtown ahead 2-1 at the break.

JaQuez McKoy drained a 3-point shot, a pair of 2-point baskets and a free throw as the Cougars outscored the visitors 12-4 in the second quarter. Ra’Sean McKoy’s follow shot beat the buzzer to pad the lead to 14-5 at halftime.

JaQuez McKoy bombed in another 3-pointer and hit 2 free throws in the third quarter. Lefrederick Wooten threw in a lay-up and a free throw to keep the Cougars ahead 22-12 at the quarter break.

Center Javant McDowell dropped in a pair of baskets in the final period for the winners. Brady Hollingsworth and JaQuez McKoy pumped in a basket and a free throw each in the quarter, and Meares added a basket.

Wooten finished with 5 points for the Cougars, and McDowell and Meares scored 4 points each.

The Cougars will host Bladenboro Thursday at 4 p.m.
