Boys Basketball: Heide Trask 78, West Bladen 70

League-leader Heide Trask won their sixteenth straight game Friday night as they defeated the West Bladen Knights 78-70 in Four County Conference boys basketball action at Rocky Point.

The Titans improved to 9-0 in league play and 18-1 overall.

Sophmore Shaquille Johnson staked the Knights to an early lead as he slammed in a dunk for the game’s first basket off of a steal and assist from senior Stefan McDonald.

Freshman Keshawn Lewis nailed a 3-pointer from the left corner and added another basket. McDonald netted a basket and a free throw, and junior John Bowen, sophmore Jonathan Robinson and Johnson dropped in baskets as the Knights took a 16-12 first quarter lead.

Johnathan Jordan threw in a 3-ball and 5 more points to keep Trask close. Tiywan Ballard and Jacquan London tallied 6 points each in the second quarter, and senior Tynaffit Davis scored 5 as the Titans rode a 23-13 spurt to a 35-29 halftime lead.

Bowen flipped in a jump hook and added 3 more baskets in the quarter, and junior Sayaun Dent drilled a 3-point shot from the right wing for West.

Five points each from Davis and London sparked a 22-14 Titan surge in the third quarter that padded their lead to 57-43. Johnson pumped in 4 baskets in the third period for West, and Dent contributed a basket and 2 free throws.

McDonald keyed a 27-point Knight explosion in the final quarter by knocking down a pair of 3-point shots and canning 5 free throws. Bowen delivered 2 baskets and a free throw in the period, and Dent had a basket and 3 free throws.

Jordan posted 6 of his game-high 19 points in the final quarter, and London scored 4 of his 15 in the period. Davis finished with 17 points for the Titans.

Bowen led the Knight scoring with 17 points, and Johnson and McDonald followed with 14 points each. Dent tallied 12 points.

The Knights, now 5-5 in the league and 14-6 overall, will travel to Pender Tuesday night.
