RED SPRINGS – Red Springs rode a 37-17 surge in the game’s 2 middle quarters to a 70-52 Southeastern Athletic Conference boys basketball victory over East Bladen Tuesday night.

Junior guards Jacob Nixon and Malcolm Bolden bombed in 3-point shots and threw in a pair of 2-point buckets each in the opening quarter for the Eagles. Teammate Jordan Mathis banged in a basket as the Eagles edged ahead 16-15.

Johnny Chavis drained a pair of 3-point shots, and Mario Leonard added a 3-ball as the Red Devils rode a 19-10 spurt to a 34-26 halftime lead. Kaedon Porter tossed in a trio of baskets in the period and topped the Red Devil scoring in the game with 22 points.

Bolden sank 2 free throws and a basket for East in the 2nd quarter. Senior Nazire Smith converted 2 foul shots, and Nixon and junior Zamar Lewis dropped in baskets.

Kohnner Oxendine knocked down a pair of 3-point shots for the Red Devils in the 3rd period, and Noah Chavis made a 3-pointer as the lead grew to 52-33. Porter and Jaaron Monroe netted 2 baskets each for the Red Devils in the quarter, and Monroe tacked on a free throw.

Smith popped in a basket and a free throw for the Eagles in the period, and Lewis and junior Yontee Dobson muscled in baskets.

Nixon drilled in a pair of 3-point shots in the final period and led the Eagle scoring with 15 points. Junior Malaki Monroe nailed a 3-point shot and 2 other baskets in the quarter. Lewis worked inside for a pair of baskets, and Ahmad Powell cashed in 2 free throws.

Porter pumped in a trio of baskets and 3 free throws in the 4th quarter, and Jamey Tedder connected on 7 straight free throws to keep the Red Devils on top. Jaaron Monroe totaled 13 points in the game, and Noah Chavis followed with 9.

Bolden posted 11 points for the Eagles. Lewis finished with 8 points, and Malaki Monroe scored 7 points. Smith added 5 points.

The Eagles, now 5-2 in SAC-7 play and 10-6 overall, will host league-leader St. Pauls Friday night.
