RED SPRINGS – Red Springs grabbed an early 24-12 lead Tuesday night and maintained that margin en route to a 76-62 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over West Bladen.

Guard Caleel Mitchell drained a pair of 3-points shots and scored 9 of his 17 points during the early Red Devil surge. Teammate Monte Wilkerson dropped in a trio of baskets, and Jaylon Woods drilled a 3-point shot.

Senior Gerardo Reyes nailed a 3-point shot and another basket for the Knights in the opening quarter, and freshman Shyron Adams bombed in a 3-point shot for West Bladen.

Adams threw in a pair of second quarter baskets for the Knights, and junior Keshawn Lewis hit 2 free throws and another basket in the period.

Nichorie West pumped in a basket and 2 free throws to keep the Red Devils ahead 37-22 at halftime. West hurled in a 3-ball in the third period and Wilkerson netted 2 baskets and a free throw as Red Springs kept the margin at 55-42 at the quarter break.

Adams lit up the scoreboard with 4 baskets and 2 free throws in the third quarter, and junior guard Jaheim Lesane drilled in a 3-point shot.

Senior guard Jimmy Williams buried a pair of 3-point shots and 2 free throws in the fourth period for West Bladen. Adams tossed in 2 more baskets in the quarter and topped the Knight scoring with 21 points.

Williams finished with 9 points for West Bladen, and Lewis followed with 8 points.

Wilkerson scored 7 of his team-high 18 points for Red Springs in the final quarter. Teammate Jerome Bass muscled in 6 of his 12 points in the period.

The Knights will host Union in a non-conference game Wednesday night.
