TABOR CITY – Junior Riley Hewett drained a last-second 3-point shot Tuesday night to lift South Columbus to a 54-52 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over West Bladen.
Knight sophmore Shyron Adams sank 2 free throws with six seconds left to give West Bladen a 52-51 lead before Hewett’s game-winner. It was Hewett’s fifth 3-point basket of the game.
Hewett threw in a pair 3-point shots in the opening quarter, and Traquan Bellamy delivered a 3-pointer and another basket as the Stallions built an 18-13 lead.
Junior Tyre Boykin pumped in 2 baskets and a free throw for the Knights in the opening quarter. Senior Jaheim Lesane converted 2 foul shots, and seniors Keshawn Lewis, Drew Harris and Cameron Taylor added a basket each.
Senior Kerron Washington scored all 3 of his baskets in the second quarter for the Knights. Lewis and Lesane canned 2 free throws each, and Adams and junior Trashawn Ballard flipped in a basket each to whittle the South lead to 31-28 at halftime.
Lewis nailed a 3-point shot in the third quarter, and Boykin netted a basket and a free throw. Lesane and junior Nijeah McKoy dropped in a basket each as the Knights took a 39-37 lead at the quarter break.
Shiquan Conyers led a Stallion rally with 3 baskets and 3 free throws in the final quarter. Conyers finished with 13 points, while Hewett’s winning goal gave him 15 points in the game. Bellamy totaled 9 points.
Boykin and Taylor kept the Knights in contention with 2 baskets each in the fourth period, and Adams buried a 3-point shot.
Boykin topped the Knight scoring with 13 points. Lewis, Adams and Taylor contributed 7 points each, and Washington and Lesane finished with 6 points each.
West Bladen will travel to rival East Bladen Friday night.
