TABOR CITY – South Columbus rode a 40-25 second-half surge to a 68-52 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over East Bladen Friday night.
Sophmore center Javant McDowell worked the paint for a trio of baskets in the first quarter as the Eagles built a 15-8 lead. Seniors Greyson Heustess and Pierce Melvin and junior Tyshawn Berkeley drained 3-point shots for East Bladen in the period.
The Stallions caught fire in the second period and rode a 20-12 rally to a 28-27 halftime lead.
Heustess nailed another 3-point shot for the Eagles in the second quarter, and senior Keshaun Davis sank 3 free throws. Melvin, McDowell and sophmore Freddy Wooten dropped in one basket each.
A 22-13 Stallion surge opened up a 50-40 lead after 3 periods. East Bladen junior Tyshawn Berkeley fired in a 3-point shot and another basket in the third quarter, and Davis pumped in 2 baskets.
Heustess bombed in another 3-point basket in the final quarter, and Berkeley netted a basket and a free throw. Wooten canned 2 free throws, and Davis and Rashard Willis added baskets.
East Bladen, now 1-1 in league play and 1-3 overall, will host Red Springs Tuesday night.
