ROWLAND – Cameron Werrell filled up the baskets with 39 points Tuesday night to lead South Robeson to an 84-72 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over West Bladen.

Werrell, a 6-4, 300-pound senior, connected on 11 two-point shots, 4 3-point baskets and on all 5 of his free throw attempts. Senior guard Daniel Murray racked up 18 of his 20 points for the Mustangs in the second half.

Junior Tyre Boykin poured in 32 points for the Knights, firing in 8 two-point baskets, a trio of 3-pointers and sinking 7 of 11 foul shots. Sophmore teammate Shyron Adams pumped in 15 points, and junior Nijeah McKoy and senior Jaheim Lesane scored 7 points each.

Boykin canned a pair of baskets and 4 free throws in the first quarter, and senior Kerron Washington nailed a 3-point shot. Baskets from Adams and senior Drew Harris kept the Knights within 17-15 at the quarter break.

Seven different Mustangs scored in the first quarter, before Werrell keyed an 18-9 South spurt in the second period with five 2-point baskets and a 3-point bomb.

Adams threw in two buckets and a free throw for West in the second quarter, and Boykin dropped in a pair of baskets to keep the Knights within 35-24 at halftime.

Boykin fired in a pair of 3-point bombs and two free throws in the third period, and Adams drilled in a 3-pointer and another basket. Lesane and senior Keshawn Lewis buried 3-point shots, and McKoy muscled in a basket and a free throw.

Murray and Werrell tallied 8 points each in the third period to keep the Mustang lead at 56-47 at the quarter break.

Werrell lit up the scoreboard with a pair of 3-point baskets, a trio of 2-point baskets and 4 free throws in the final quarter. Murray pumped in a 3-point basket, 2 more baskets and 3 free throws as the Mustangs racked up 28 points in the quarter.

Boykin kept the Knights close with four 2-point baskets, a 3-point basket and a free throw. McKoy powered in 2 more baskets, and Lesane popped in a basket and 2 free throws. Adams knocked down another 3-point shot.

The Knights will host East Columbus Friday night.
