ST PAULS – A 15-2 third quarter spurt propelled St. Pauls to a 65-50 Three Rivers Conference boys basketball victory over West Bladen Tuesday night.
The teams battled on even terms throughout the first half. Junior Keshawn Lewis nailed a 3-point shot and two more baskets to lead the Knight scoring in the opening period. Junior Kerron Baldwin-Washington and senior Gerardo Reyes bombed in one 3-point shot each as West Bladen tied the game 15-15 at the quarter break.
The Knights’ long-distance barrage continued in the second quarter as juniors Jaheim Lesane and Eddie Perez-Ortiz and sophmores Tyre Boykin and Trashawn Ballard drained one 3-point shot each. Baldwin-Washington added a basket, and senior Jimmy Williams netted 2 free throws to keep West Bladen tied 31-31 at halftime.
Caleb Henderson sparked the St. Pauls offense with 7 points in the in first half, and center Sean McNeil, Jr. dropped in 6 points.
Reyes opened the second-half with a 3-point shot that put West Bladen on top 34-31, but Kenae Taylor and McNeil combined for 9 points to lead a 15-2 Bulldog run that produced a 46-36 lead. Boykin buried a 3-point shot that pulled the Knights to within 47-39 at the quarter break.
Aaron Revels pumped in 8 points as St. Pauls widened the gap to 55-39, before an 11-2 Knight run trimmed the margin to 57-50. Williams led the West spurt with a pair of baskets, and freshman Shyron Adams sank 2 free throws and a basket.
Boykin topped the Knight scoring with 10 points, and Lewis followed with 7 points. Williams and Reyes added 6 points each.
Taylor headed the Bulldog scoring list with 14 points, and McNeil, Jr. followed with 12 points. Revels and Emonta Smith netted 10 points each.
The Knights are scheduled to host South Columbus Thursday night and East Bladen Friday.
