ST PAULS – St. Pauls threw in five 3-point shots during a 26-5 closing spurt that carried the Bulldogs to a 74-47 victory over West Bladen in the boys’ basketball opener for both teams.

Jeyvian Tatum racked up 10 of his game-high 20 points as the Bulldogs built a 26-19 1st quarter lead. Josh Lewis canned a trio of free throws and a basket for the Knights in the period. ShyRon Adams dropped in a pair of baskets, and Anthony Mitchell and Josiah Brown nailed 3-point shots for West.

Adams flipped in a basket and 2 free throws in the 2nd period. Mitchell drained another 3-ball, and Lewis cashed in 2 free throws to keep the Knights within 35-28 at halftime.

Landon Stanley bombed in a 3-ball and hit 2 free throws in the 3rd quarter. Brown and Lewis popped in a basket and a free throw each. Two free throws from Javonta Matthews and one from Gary Parker trimmed the Bulldog lead to 46-42 at the quarter break.

Josh Henderson hurled in a trio of 3-point shots for the Bulldogs in the final period and finished with 17 points. Elston Powell connected on a 3-ball and another basket in the quarter and finished with 12 points. Teammate Josh McNair scored 4 of his 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Adams topped the Knight scoring with 11 points, and Lewis followed with 10 points. Mitchell and Brown scored 6 points each, and Stanley added 5 points.

West Bladen will host East Columbus Friday. Varsity girls game will begin at 4:30.
