East Bladen High SchoolROSE HILL – East Bladen’s Eagles fought back from a 16-point first-half deficit but dropped a 65-63 Four County Conference boys basketball victory to Union Tuesday night.

Warren Gay and Nadir Goodwin bombed in two 3-point shots each in the opening quarter as the Spartans rolled to a 23-10 first quarter lead. Teammate Derrick Smith added 2 baskets.

Senior Demetrius Wooten and sophmore Adonis Avery drained 3-point shots for the Eagles in the first period, and senior Denzel Johnson popped in a basket. Teammates Sincere Smith and Eian Hines tacked on free throws.

The lead grew to 16 points early in the second period, but the Eagles responded with a 22-point blitz of their own. Avery led the charge with a pair of 3-point bombs, a 2-point basket and a free throw.

Hines buried a 3-point shot and another basket, and Demetrius Wooten fired in a 3-point shot and a trio of free throws. Sincere Smith tossed in a basket as the Eagles closed the gap to 35-32 at halftime.

Derrick Smith rang up a trio of baskets and a 3-ball to key a Union surge that widened the gap to 52-46 at the third quarter break.

Demetrius Wooten nailed a 3-point shot and another basket. Hines threw in a 3-ball, and Xavier Wooten and Sincere Smith tallied a basket and a free throw each in the third period for the Eagles.

Avery launched another 3-ball and netted 2 more baskets to lead the Eagle rally in the final period. Hines pumped in 2 baskets, and Sincere Smith and Demetrius Wooten added baskets.

Derrick Smith scored 6 of his 23 points for Union in the final quarter. Gay and Goodwin followed with 14 points each.

Avery topped the Eagle scoring with 19 points, and Demetrius Wooten followed with 16 points. Hines finished with 13 points, and Sincere Smith scored 8 points.
