East Bladen High SchoolJunior Aliza Carter beat the buzzer with the game-winning 3-point basket as Wallace-Rose Hill rallied from a 25-point deficit to edge East Bladen 69-66 in Four County Conference boys basketball action at East Thursday night.

Carter hit four 3-pointers in the game and three in the final 4 minutes as the Bulldogs closed the game with a 17-4 run that overcame a 62-52 Eagle lead.

After the second Carter 3-ball sliced the East lead to 62-60 with 2:43 left, senior Dayvon Powell drove for a lay-up and a 64-60 lead. However Bulldog junior Ty Scarborough, a mid-year transfer from Harrells Christian, tied the game with an 8-footer then edged the visitors in front 66-64 with 2 free throws at the 1:14 mark.

Junior Ethan Hines sank 2 free throws with 15 seconds left to pull the Eagles even at 66, before the Carter game-winner.

“The kids played hard,” said East Bladen Coach Ken Cross. “You can’t fault the effort. We made a few mental mistakes and rushed things when we didn’t have too. But the kids gave a great effort.”

Sophmore Sincere Smith led the Eagle scoring with 13 points, and Powell followed with 12 points. Junior Ethan Hines finished with 9 points, and junior Demetrius Wooten scored all 8 of his points in the second quarter.

Junior Eian Hines grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds as the Eagles outrebounded the Bulldogs 33-24. Junior Derrick Burney pulled down 7 rebounds, senior Chris Cromartie collected 5 rebounds, and senior Jermaine Robinson had 7 points and 4 rebounds.

Carter topped the Bulldog offense with 16 points, and Scarborough followed with 14 points. Senior Johnnie Glaspie scored 9 of his 12 points in the second half, and Alex Lisane added 11 points.

Wallace led 6-4 early, but junior Ethan Hines banked in a 3-point shot, Eian Hines put back a rebound, and Cromartie hit 2 free throws for an 11-6 East lead.

Robinson buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key then drove for a lay-up. Burney turned a Wooten assist into a lay-up, and Denzel Johnson drilled in a corner 3-ball for a 21-9 Eagle lead at the quarter break.

Smith fired in back-to-back 3-point shots, Powell banked in a runner and hit a foul shot, and Burney and Powell put back rebounds that grew the lead to 34-13.

Wooten threw in back-to-back 3-point shots from the right wing that gave the Eagles their biggest lead at 40-15 with 2:36 left in the half.

The Bulldogs responded with an 11-2 spurt that Carter capped by beating the halftime buzzer with a 3-point shot that trimmed the Eagle lead to 42-26.

Ethan Hines beat the Wallace press for a lay-up, and Powell flipped in a runner and made a free throw to keep the East lead at 47-30 at the 6:51 mark of the third period.

Lisane’s 3-point shot ignited a 9-0 Bulldog run, but Johnson nailed a corner 3-point shot, and Smith turned assists from Robinson and Johnson into lay-ups. A Robinson driving lay-up kept East ahead 56-46 at the third quarter break.

Ethan Hines beat the press for a lay-up, and Eian Hines popped free for a lay-up on an in-bounds pass. Free throws by Smith and Eian Hines kept the margin at 62-52.

Fouls plagued the Eagle cause as Wallace-Rose Hill made 17 of 34 free throws, while East Bladen connected on 8 of their 14 attempts. Fifteen second-half turnovers were also a problem. The Eagles only turned the ball over 5 times in the first half.

East Bladen, now 2-10 in league play and 5-15 overall, will host Union Tuesday night.
