BOILING SPRING LAKE – Senior Sayaun Dent pumped in 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half as West Bladen rallied for a 51-45 non-conference boys basketball victory Friday night and handed South Brunswick their first loss of the season.

The Knights trailed 17-16 at halftime, but Dent connected on 3 baskets and a free throw in the third quarter, and  senior John Bowen nailed a trio of shots to spark a 15-4 West Bladen blitz that produced a 31-21 lead. Sophmore Keshawn Lewis also contributed a basket to the Knight run.

Senior Kalvin Page delivered a pair of baskets and hit 3 of 4 free throws in the final quarter for the Knights. Page finished with 12 points. “Kalvin has been great for us the last 2 games,” said West Bladen Coach Travis Pait.

Dent matched Page’s total in the final period with 2 baskets and 3 free throws. John Bowen dropped in 2 baskets and a free throw in the fourth quarter and scored 11 of his 12 points in the second half.

“John Bowen was huge for us in the second half,” noted Coach Pait. “He was hurt by foul trouble in the first half. Keshawn played great minutes for us too.”

The teams battled to a 7-7 tie in the first quarter. Page and Drew Harris netted a basket each in the period for the Knights, and Page, junior Jonathan Robinson and Bowen hit one free throw each.

Forward Andrew Mosley dropped in 2 baskets in the quarter, and Kareem Randolph bombed in a 3-point shot to keep the Cougars even at 7-7.

Randolph and Shinar Fullwood connected from 3-point range in the second period as the Cougars edged in front.

Dent buried a 3-point shot from the right wing  and added another basket and a free throw in the second quarter. Page sank 2 foul shots in the period, and Robinson hit one.

Keyshawn Jenkins and Randolph shared scoring honors for the Cougars with 12 points each, and Brandon Gonzales followed with 9 points. South Brunswick is now 5-1.

“This was a huge win for us,” said Coach Pait. They are a good ball team.” The Knights improved to 3-2 with the win and will begin Four County Conference play Tuesday night when they host Union.
