BLADENBORO – Senior ShyRon Adams celebrated Senior Night with 21 points, 8 steals and 6 rebounds as West Bladen’s boys claimed their first win of the season 64-27 over South Columbus in Three Rivers Conference basketball action.

 

Adams and fellow senior Josh Lewis were honored in pre-game ceremonies. “Josh and ShyRon did a really good job tonight,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “We needed the win. The kids have played hard all year, and we have seen some good things.”

 

Josiah Brown filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals for the winners. Freshman Landon Stanley threw in 8 points and had 4 rebounds. Anthony Mitchell chipped in with 7 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

 

Javonta Matthews added 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 steals. Keshawn Ballard grabbed 7 rebounds, and sophomore Gary Parker pulled down 6 rebounds. Freshman Cornelius Esters collected 4 rebounds. 

 

“Andre Moore played really well for the second game in a row,” noted Pait. Cornelius played good solid defense and had no turnovers. Josiah played really good, and Javonta did a good job for us.”

 

Adams drove for a lay-up and cashed in 4 free throws, and Brown banked in a 3-pointer, raced for a lay-up and hit 2 free throws as the Knights took an early 13-3 lead. Sophomore Deonte Lacey muscled in a lay-up, Stanley canned a free throw, and Adams flipped in a fade-away 12-footer for an 18-5 lead at the quarter break.

 

Matthews began the 2nd period with 2 free throws, and Brown drove for a pair of lay-ups – one off of a Moore assist. Lewis converted a free throw then dished an assist to Parker for a lay-up.  Adams turned a steal into a lay-up, Mitchell drove for a lay-up, Moore and Parker knocked in free throws, and Alan Breakfield dropped in a lay-up for a 35-13 Knight halftime lead.

 

Matthews started the 2nd half with a pair of lay-ups – one off of a steal. Brown, Mitchell and Stanley tossed in lay-ups. Lacey banged in a 4-footer, and Stanley and Mitchell buried 3-point shots. An Esters follow shot pushed the lead to 55-21.

 

Stanley nailed 2 free throws to kick off the final quarter. Adams drained a 3-ball, then threw in a pair of lay-ups – the last one off of a steal.  

 

“We played better in the 2nd half,” continued Pait. “It’s been a tough year. We have played a lot of close games. We have played 11 games and have only had 18 practices.”

 

The Knights will host East Bladen Friday night to close out their season.
