DUBLIN- Seniors Sayaun Dent and John Bowen both posted double-doubles to lead West Bladen to a 64-40 non-conference boys basketball victory over West Columbus Friday night.
Dent poured in 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. John Bowen pumped in 18 points and pulled down a whopping 16 rebounds.
Dent blistered the nets with 4 first-quarter baskets and a free throw as the Knights raced to a 15-10 lead. Bowen dropped in a pair of baskets in the quarter, and senior Kalvin Page made 2 free throws.
Bowen bombed in a pair of 3-point shots in the second quarter, and Dent threw in a 3-pointer and 2 more baskets as the Knight lead grew to 34-18. Junior Jimmy Williams tossed in a basket and a free throw, and junior Jonathan Robinson added a basket.
Page and Williams scored third quarter baskets and Dent hit 2 free throws to keep West Bladen up 40-28.
“We missed a bunch of easy shots in that third quarter,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “We were getting good looks but just weren’t making them.”
The Knights exploded for a 24-12 run in the final period. John Bowen drained a pair of 3-point shots in the quarter. Dent nailed a 3-point shot and threw in another basket and 2 free throws.
Fred Walters buried a 3-point shot and added another basket. Robinson and Page added baskets in the period.
Page finished with 6 points and led the team with 5 assists. “Kalvin played well, and Jimmy gave us some good minutes,” said Coach Pait. “Drew Harris is playing his butt off and had 3 big rebounds. We were able to play our freshman (Tyre Boykin) in the first half and he gave us some good minutes.”
The Knights are now 5-2 and will host North Brunswick on December 28th in their own Woodmen Life Christmas Tournament.
“We are starting to look like a basketball team,” said Coach Pait. “We played a pretty good first half and now we have won 5 in a row.”
