TEACHEY – Senior John Bowen blistered the nets with five 3-point shots and 29 points Monday night to lead West Bladen to a 67-52 Four County Conference boys basketball victory over Wallace-Rose Hill.

“John scored the ball really well tonight,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “He made shots, and he rebounded well in the second half.”

Bowen drained a 3-pointer and another basket in the first quarter, and senior Sayaun Dent and junior Jonathan Robinson dropped in baskets to keep the Knights within 13-9.

Javant Williams rang up 5 points for the Bulldogs in the opening period, and teammate Raheem Christian added 4 points. Christian threw in 3 more baskets in the second quarter, but a 20-13 surge pushed the Knights in front 29-26 at halftime.

John Bowen fired in a trio of 3-point shots and tacked on 2 free throws to lead the second quarter West rally. Junior Jimmy Williams tossed in a pair of baskets, and senior Kalvin Page sank all 4 of his free throws. Junior Scott Bowen netted a free throw in the period.

The Knights padded their lead to 44-35 with a 15-9 third quarter rally. Bowen pumped in a trio of baskets, and Page contributed 2 baskets and 2 free throws. Dent made a trio of foul shots in the quarter.

“We tightened our defense in the second half and guarded really well,” said Coach Pait. “This was one of our better games of the year.”

The Knights racked up 23 points in the final quarter and withstood a long-range barrage by the Bulldogs who made five 3-point shots in the period.

Page made 7 of 11 free throws and one basket in the final period to finish with 19 points in the game. John Bowen buried a final 3-point shot and canned 4 of 5 free throws in the quarter.

Sophmore Keshawn Lewis popped in a basket and a free throw in the fourth quarter, and Scott Bowen and Dent flipped in a basket each.

“Keshawn and Scott played really well tonight,” said Coach Pait. “Jonathan Robinson did a good job. Sayaun passed the ball well and played good defense. He ran the point when Kalvin was in foul trouble.” Dent finished with 7 points.

Quayvion Baysden led the Bulldogs with 15 points, and Aliza Carter followed with 11 points. Christian totaled 10 points.

The Knights improved to 8-1 in league play and 15-4 overall. West Bladen will travel to Pender Wednesday night.
