West Bladen High School LogoGuards Rahu Purdie and Stephon McDonald combined for 33 points to lead West Bladen to a 69-36 Four County Conference boys’ basketball victory at Union Friday night.

Purdie, a senior, fired in 17 points to lead the Knight scoring, and McDonald, a junior followed with 16 points. Senior guard Malcolm Vaught threw in 10 points for the winners.

Sophomore forward Sayaun Dent scored all 6 of his points in the opening period to spark the Knights to an early 14- 8 lead. West Bladen outscored the Spartans 18-10 in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 32-18 at halftime.

Purdie pumped in 6 points during the second quarter Knight surge, and Knight seniors Vaught and Justin Ruffin nailed 3-point shots in the quarter.

McDonald took charge in the third period tossing in 8 points. Purdie added 7, and Vaught tallied 5 as the guard trio rang up 20 of the Knight points during a 22-10 blitz that opened up a 54-28 lead.

McDonald and senior Brian Floyd contributed 4 points each in the final quarter as the Knights outscored the Spartans 15-8 in the final period.

Coach Travis Pait’s Knights improved to 4-3 in the Four County and 13-3 overall. West Bladen will host Wallace-Rose Hill tonight (Saturday). Gametime for the varsity boys will be around 6:30.
