West Bladen racked up 40 points in the second half and pulled away for a key 70-59 Four County Conference boys basketball victory over visiting Midway Friday night.

The Knights jumped out to a 16-11 first quarter lead, but Midway rallied and pulled even 30-30 at halftime. Senior Stefan McDonald scored 6 first-half points for the Knights, and freshman Keshawn Lewis drilled a 3-point shot in the second period.

McDonald nailed a 3-point shot and another basket, and sophmore Jonathan Robinson worked the paint for 5 more points as the Knights opened up a 46-42 lead.

Junior John Bowen and McDonald drained 3-point shots in the fourth quarter, and McDonald sank 7 of 8 free throws in the final period.

“We had some turnovers in the first half, and we were trying to keep some people out of foul trouble,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “We got the line-up we wanted in there in the second half against their half-court trap, and we were able to beat it and get some easy baskets.”

McDonald led the West Bladen scoring with 21 points. “Stefan hit 2 big threes for us and made a lot of key free throws late” said Coach Pait.

Robinson and Bowen finished with 11 points each. “Robinson played big tonight,” said Coach Pait. “He had a ton of rebounds. Kalvin Page came in and picked us up. It was a good team effort against a good basketball team.”

Junior Sayaun Dent and sophmore Shaquille Johnson tossed in 9 points each for the winners.

Center Paris Smith led the Midway scoring with 18 points. Guard Dariuss Perez followed with 13 points, and Ayden Canady added 12 points.

The Knights raised their league record to 3-2 and their overall mark to 12-3. West Bladen will host rival East Bladen Tuesday night.
