ROSE HILL – West Bladen pulled away with a 23-12 fourth quarter blitz that sealed a 74-57 non-conference boys basketball victory for the Knights over Union.

The Spartans had trimmed a 10-point Knight halftime lead to 51-45 after three quarters. Senior Scott Bowen, junior Kerron Baldwin-Washington and sophmore Tyre Boykin threw in two baskets each to lead the closing Knight run.

Senior Gerardo Reyes buried a 3-point shot in the final period, seniors Jimmy Williams and Jonathan Robinson sank two free throws each, and juniors Drew Harris and Keshawn Lewis added a basket each.

Robinson worked the paint for four first quarter baskets that sparked the Knights to a 22-14 first period lead. Freshman Shyron Adams nailed a 3-point shot and another basket, and sophmore Trashawn Ballard drained a 3-point shot. Williams, Lewis and Bowen added baskets in the quarter.

West Bladen rode a long-range barrage to a 37-27 halftime lead as Bowen, Boykin, Adams and Ballard all bombed in 3-point shots in the second period. Bowen also dropped in a 2-point basket.

Derrick Smith carried the scoring load for Union with four first quarter baskets and a pair of 2-point baskets plus a 3-point basket in the second period. Smith lit up the scoreboard with four baskets and a free throw in the third quarter to lead the Spartans to within 51-45.

Robinson muscled in a pair of third quarter baskets, and Reyes and junior Jaheim Lesane buried 3-point shots to keep the Knights on top. Bowen netted a basket and a free throw in the period.

Bowen and Robinson shared scoring honors for West Bladen with 14 points each. Adams rang up 8 points, Boykin followed with 7, and Ballard and Reyes totaled 6 points each. Williams tallied 5 points.

Smith poured in 28 points to lead Union.

West Bladen improved to 2-6 and will return to action on Dec. 27th when they host the Woodmen Life Christmas Tournament. The Knights will play Dillon, SC in the opening round.
