LAKE WACCAMAW – Seniors Jimmy Williams and Gerardo Reyes led an overtime surge by West Bladen that produced a 75-73 boys basketball victory over East Columbus Friday night in Three Rivers Conference action.

The teams completed regulation play knotted 65-65. Williams nailed a 3-point shot to begin the extra period and later added a free throw. Reyes popped in a basket and 2 free throws, while junior Jaheim Lesane sank a pair of free throws to helped seal the victory.

Jimmy Williams drained a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw in the first period, and sophmore Trashawn Ballard threw in a pair of baskets. Juniors Kerron Baldwin-Washington, Keshawn Lewis and Trenton Lyons all fired in 3-point baskets to keep West Bladen even at 20-20.

T. J. Barr hurled in two 3-point shots and a basket for East in the first quarter, and teammate Alterek Simpson added a 3-point basket and a pair of 2-point hoops.

D. J. Williams popped in 2 baskets and a free throw, and Graylan Daniels netted 2 baskets as the Gators edged ahead 36-34 at halftime.

Sophmore Tyre Boykin led the Knights in the second period with 2 baskets and a free throw. Eddie Perez-Ortiz buried a 3-point shot, senior Jonathan Robinson and junior Keshawn Lewis tossed in a basket each, and Lesane hit 2 free throws.

Simpson scored 6 points and D. J. Wiliams tallied 5 as the Gators padded their lead to 53-49 in the third quarter.

Ballard threw in a 3-point shot, another basket and a free throw for the Knights in the third quarter. Reyes bombed in a 3-ball, and junior Drew Harris, Lewis and Robinson added baskets to keep West close.

Lewis rallied the Knights in the final quarter with a 3-point shot and another basket. Reyes was on target with another 3-ball, and Boykin and Jimmy Williams pumped in baskets. Robinson scored in the paint and made 2 free throws as the Knights pulled even.

Five points from Worley in the period kept the Gators even.

Jimmy Williams and Lewis shared scoring honors for the winners with 12 points each. Ballard and Reyes contributed 10 points each to the balanced Knight attack. Robinson finished with 8 points, and Boykin added 7.

Simpson topped the Gator scoring with 17 points, Worley followed with 13 points, and Barr added 11.

Coach Travis Pait’s Knights will host South Robeson Wednesday night after the exam break.
