West Bladen High School LogoBLADENBORO – Sophmore Shyron Adams posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead West Bladen to a 75-59 non-conference boys basketball victory over Union Friday night.

Junior Tyre Boykin just missed a double-double with 16 points and 9 rebounds, and senior guard Jaheim Lesane drained a trio of 3-point shots and finished with 15 points and 4 steals. Adams also had 4 steals in the game.

“I thought Shyron was really good tonight, especially in the first half,” said Knight Coach Travis Pait. “Tyre made some big plays for us, and Jaheim hit some shots.”

Union took an early 5-4 lead, but Lesane sank a foul shot, and Boykin put back a rebound then pitched ahead to Adams for a lay-up and a 9-5 West lead.

The Spartans’ Kendrick Beatty pulled up for a 6-footer, and Jaevion Vann tied the game a final time at 9-9 with a lay-up.

Senior Kerron Washington and Lesane turned steals into back-to-back lay-ups. Senior Jackson Norris banked in a 6-footer, and Adams beat the buzzer with a 3-ball from the left corner to give the Knights an 18-11 lead at the quarter break.

Senior Kesean Lewis and Boykin opened the second period with 3-point baskets to extend the West lead to 24-11. Boykin canned 2 free throws, Trenton Lyons sprinted for a transition lay-up and Washington turned a transition lay-up into a 3-point play and a 31-17 lead.

Union pulled to within 31-20 on Darius Highsmith’s follow shot, but Washington scored 2 more transition lay-ups, and Lesane and Boykin bombed in 3-point shots to pad the Knight lead to 42-24 at halftime.

Junior Nolan Bryant and Boykin fired in two 3-point shots each in the third quarter. Lesane pumped in a 3-point shot and another basket as the West Bladen lead grew to 64-43 at the quarter break.

“Nolan Bryant gave us a lift every time that he came into the game,” said Pait. “That second group brought a lot of energy to the game. Nijeah McKoy was a spark when he came in, and Kesean had 4 or 5 big offensive rebounds.”

Bryant contributed 6 points and 6 rebounds to the Knight attack. Washington scored 9 points and came up with 4 steals.

Lesane drilled in a 3-point shot to start the final quarter, and Adams knocked down two 3-point shots in a row to extend the lead the 73-48 with 5:36 on the clock.

“I thought we did a good job rebounding,” said Coach Pait. “I thought our press was good – we forced nearly 30 turnovers (27). We missed some lay-ups but the kids played hard and that is all you can ask.”

Beatty topped the Spartan scoring with 14 points, and Highsmith and Vann tallied 13 points each.

The Knights evened their record at 1-1 and will open Three Rivers Conference play at Fairmont Tuesday night.
