WHITEVILLE – A 17-7 closing run carried Whiteville to a 44-36 boys basketball victory Tuesday night over East Bladen in Three Rivers Conference action.

East Bladen led 29-27 after 3 quarters, but senior Jatiek Martin threw in 6 of his team-high 8 points for the Wolfpack during the run, and Ervin Moore added 4 of his 6 points in the period.

Freshman center Javant McDowell dropped in 4 of his 6 points in the quarter in an attempt to keep the Eagles close.

The Wolfpack raced to a 12-4 first quarter lead as senior Cameron Smith bombed in a pair of 3-point shots and sophmore Ty Moss nailed a 3-ball.

The Eagles bounced back with a 12-6 spurt in the second quarter. Senior Sincere Smith led the charge with 3 baskets and a free throw, and Messiah Leach buried a 3-point shot as East Bladen pulled to within 18-16 at halftime.

Leach fired in two more 3-point shots in the third quarter, and senior Adonis Avery knocked down a 3-point shot as the Eagles took the 29-27 lead.

Sincere Smith led the Eagle offense with 12 points, and Leach followed with 9 points. Phillip Powell matched Martin’s team-high 8 point total for the Wolfpack, and Moss finished with 7 points.

The Eagles will travel to Wallace-Rose Hill Wednesday night for a non-conference game.
