ELIZABETHTOWN – Senior Malcolm Bolden fired in a ‘Hat Trick’ plus one of 4 goals Thursday night to lead East Bladen to a 5-0 non-conference boys soccer victory over West Brunswick.
“Malcolm had a great performance with his 4 goals,” said Eagle Coach Jay Raynor. “He made some great runs. Tonight was a good night for us. We had more players available which obviously helped us both on the defending and attacking aspects of the game. We played hard.”

Junior Zac Metz knocked in the 1st East Bladen goal, before Bolden began his barrage on the Trojan net. Bolden’s 2nd goal was scored with 36.3 seconds left in the half and his 3rd goal that pushed the Eagle lead to 4-0 came 19 seconds later.
“Jaime Delgado who assisted on 2 of Malcolm’s goals had a great night as did Gabril Algozy who had 1 assist to Malcolm,” shared Raynor. “They improved not only their game but their work ethic. We are going to be solid if we can get those guys working that hard for the duration of the match.”
Raynor also noted that “Erik Hildago had a solid game in midfield for us. Proud of him and the leadership role he has put himself in.”
The Eagles outshot West Brunswick 19-1 in the opening half and 26-6 for the game.
“We had another strong performance in the back,” stated Raynor. “Lee (Barnes) has had 3 amazing games and continues to get better every day. Nathan Howell and Omarion Atkinson are really progressing and cleaning up when we get out of shape in the midfield.”
Raynor continued, “Alex Hildago has done an unbelievable job for us in the back. I believe he’s a true winger but when we needed him and had a spot at right back he went in and has made a place for himself. Alex seems to be in the right place at the right time and ever since our game with New Hanover, he has battled and won just about every 1 v 1 situation he has been put in.”
Zach Sholar is giving us quality minutes as a freshman and doing things that are difficult for a freshman to do,” said Raynor. “He played some great balls into our forwards tonight and was in scoring position several times.”
“We had to make some adjustments due to a few injuries which changed our dynamics especially in midfield,” added Raynor. “The positive is we were able to get valuable minutes for some our younger guys. They all have grown a lot since the first day.”
Raynor concluded, “A lot to be proud of and also a few things we need to continue to get better at. Overall, it was a great win in front of our home crowd.“
East Bladen, now 1-2, will travel to Wake Med Soccer Park in Cary Saturday for a 1 p.m. game against Western Guilford in the NCSCA Kickoff Classic.
