BATON ROUGE, LA – Former West Bladen star Brandon Council and his Auburn Tigers snapped a 22-year losing streak in Tiger Stadium Saturday night by rallying for a 24-19 victory over Louisiana State in the Southeastern Conference football opener for both teams.

Council who mans the left guard position for Auburn played a key role in clearing the way on Auburn’s 92-yard game-winning drive. Jarquez Hunter popped free off the left side behind tackle Austin Troxell and Council on a 44-yard run that keyed the drive. Hunter dove off the left side for the go-ahead 1-yard touchdown run with 3:11 left.

The Auburn offense piled up 453 yards of total offense and ran for 163 yards. Quarterback Bo Nix threw for 255 yards and completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Fromm. Nix also ran for 74 yards and scored on a 5-yard TD run. Tight end John Samuel Shenker caught 5 passes for 102 yards.

It was the 1st win for Auburn in Tiger Stadium since 1999 and it came in front of 97,717 boisterous fans. The Auburn Tigers, now 4-1 overall, will host No. 2 ranked Georgia at 3:30 Saturday in a game televised nationally on CBS.
