East Bladen’s all-time leading scorer, Brooks McGill, signed Wednesday to continue his soccer career next season at Cape Fear Community College.

McGill fired in 32 goals and dished out 39 assists to total 103 points in his senior season to lead the Three Rivers Conference in all three categories.

A 3-time All-Conference performer, McGill led the Eagles to a 21-2 record and the Three Rivers Conference championship in 2017. He was also named to the North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association Class 2A All-State team.

“Cape Fear was just the place for me,” said McGill who also considered Columbia International University, Louisburg and St. Andrews. “I am excited and looking forward to it.” McGill played with some of the current Cape Fear players at the Powerade State Games and knows some of the others from travel soccer.

“It is a good fit for Brooks,” said East Bladen Coach Jay Raynor. “He is a talented player and his adaptability to play different positions will be huge at the next level as will his ability to push others. He is a solid player and brings a lot of offense to the game.”

Assistant Coach Joe Melvin pointed out Brooks’ speed and tenacity saying, “He’s got a motor that never stops. He is very competitive and is very coachable.”

Brooks’ parents are the Rev. Cameron McGill and Tiffany McGill of Dublin. “We are just grateful that he is getting a chance to play and further his education,” said Rev. McGill.

“It makes it easier that he is going to be close by,” said Tiffany McGill. “It’s exciting to see his dreams come true.”

McGill is planning to major in business and plans to go on to a 4-year school after his time at Cape Fear Community.
