NCDACSSeal_4colorDue to current dry and windy conditions, the North Carolina Forest Service and Brunswick County Emergency Services encourage all residents of Brunswick County to postpone any planned burning until sufficient precipitation has fallen.

Regardless of the skill of the person burning, a small debris fire only needs the right weather conditions and a few seconds to become a very dangerous wildfire that puts lives and property at risk.

In North Carolina, there are currently three active, major wildfires that have burned thousands of acres, including the Clemmons Road Fire in the Bolivia community of Brunswick County, which accounts for over 1500 acres. In addition to the acreage, fighting the fires occupies the time and efforts of hundreds of firefighters from state and local agencies, as well as EMS personnel and local law enforcement, leaving these officials unavailable to assist with any new fires that may start.

Residents are strongly encouraged to delay any burning until conditions improve.
