Elizabethtown 16, Columbus County 14
CLARKTON – Elizabethtown exploded for 7 runs in the first inning and held on to defeat Columbus County 16-14 in the Buddy Burney AA (Coach-Pitch) Scholarship Games Friday night.
Zach Sholar started the Elizabethtown first inning with a drive to rightfield, and Tyler Lewis reached base on an error. Davion Lewis’ grounder brought home Sholar, and Mason Smith pounded a double to centerfield that scored Tyler Lewis.
Ryan Dove slammed a double to left that plated Davion Lewis and Smith. Jake Gooden reached base on a fielder’s choice, and C. J. McCracken ripped a double to left-centerfield that scored Dove. Colton Daly belted a single that brought home McCracken.
Easton Bostic started the Elizabethtown second with a single. Sholar reached on an error. After Tyler Lewis’ fielder’s choice, Davion Lewis knocked in Bostic and Sholar with a single. Smith laced a single to left-centerfield that scored Tyler Lewis with the tenth run for the winners.
Daly yanked a single to rightfield, and Bostic raked a single to left in the third inning. Sholar reached on an error to load the bases, before Tyler Lewis walloped a double to left-centerfield that cleaned the bases.
Gooden reached on an error in the fourth inning, and Daly drove him in with a single.
Sholar reached base on a fielder’s choice in the fifth inning, and Tyler Lewis laced a single to centerfield. Sholar darted home as Davion Lewis reached on an error. Smith’s fielder’s choice plated Tyler Lewis.
Daly batted 3-4 with a run scored and 2 runs batted in for the winners. Bostic finished 2-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored. Tyler Lewis batted 2-4 with a double, 3 rbi’s and 3 runs scored.
Smith finished 2-4 at the plate with a double, 3 rbi’s and a run scored. Dove doubled, drove in 2 runs and scored one. McCracken doubled in a run and scored one. Sholar singled and scored 4 runs. Davion Lewis singled and drove in 4 runs. Gooden singled and scored a run, and Ahmarie White singled.
