Dixie Youth BaseballA late Elizabethtown rally fell one run short as Nakina escaped with a 6-5 victory Sunday in the Buddy Burney Dixie Youth Baseball AA Scholarship Games at Clarkton.

With Nakina leading 6-3, Connor Smith raked a single through the left side to start the Elizabethtown sixth inning. Zach Sholar drilled a triple past the right-fielder that scored Smith, then raced home on Nolan Tatum’s infield hit.

Tyler Lewis lined a single to left-field, but a double play and a force-out ended the game.

Nakina had grabbed an early 3-0 lead, but Marcus Williams belted a single to right-field to begin the Elizabethtown third inning. Ryan Dove forced Williams at second, but Tony Todd ripped a single to left-field.

Colton Daly’s fielder’s choice moved Dove to third base, and Smith’s infield hit drove in Dove.

Tatum led off the fourth inning for Elizabethtown with an infield hit, advanced on an error and dashed home when Gabe Cashwell laced a single to left.

Davion Lewis poked a spinning hit down the first baseline, and an error on the play allowed Cashwell to scoot home and trim the Nakina lead to 4-3. A double play ended the inning for Elizabethtown.

Tatum topped the Elizabethtown hitters with a perfect 3-3 day at the plate that included a run batted in.  Williams finished 2-2 at the plate, and Smith batted 2-3 with an rbi.

Sholar smashed the run-scoring triple, and Cashwell cracked the run-scoring single. Tyler Lewis, Davion Lewis, Dove and Todd added on hit each for Elizabethtown.
