Bladen County Fire Marshal Kenneth Clark issued a burn ban effective Friday morning following a proclamation from the Bladen County Board of Commissioners.
The restriction shall extend outward from all residential structures 100 feet, according to the proclamation and will remain in effect until further notice. All bonfires and outdoor rubbish fires are prohibited.
The local ban follows Thursday’s statewide ban issued by the N.C. Forest Service for all areas beyond 100 feet of residential structures. Only local fire marshals can issue a burn ban within 100 feet of residential structures.
The ban does not prohibit outdoor charcoal or gas grills provided precautions are taken to prevent fire from escaping those applications, the proclamation reads.
The Bladen burn ban was issued because of recent dry weather, increased winds and lower humidity have led to an increase in wildfire danger.
Also, the National Weather Service issued a red flag warning because of dangerous fire weather conditions from Saturday from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m.
