GREENVILLE, SC- Elizabethtown’s Cade Hancock finished second Sunday in the Hurricane Junior Golf event played this weekend at Furman University.

Hancock fired rounds of 71 and 73 to finish at even-par 144 in the Tiger Woods 16-18 year-old boys division, and two shots behind Sam Barton of Center Tuftonboro, NH.

“They had 48 kids playing in Cade’s division, and a bunch of kids from the Greg Norman Academy and the Hilton Head Junior Golf Academy,” said Jim Hancock, Cade’s father. “It was really exciting Sunday with the lead going back and forth.”

Barton started Sunday’s round with a 3-shot lead after firing a 4-under-par 68 on Saturday, but a double-bogey on the first hole and a bogey on No. 6 dropped him back into a tie with Hancock who bogeyed the fourth hole but birdied the sixth. Both players bogeyed the ninth to make the turn tied at even par.

Hancock bogeyed No. 12 but birdied 15 to stay at even par. However Barton birdied No. 14 then eagled the par-5 fifteenth to take a 3-shot lead. Hancock birdied the final hole to finish even par for the tourney.

Hancock, a senior at Harrells Christian Academy, has several big junior golf tournaments coming up including the George Holliday Memorial at Myrtle Beach Thanksgiving weekend, the Charles Tilghman Junior at the Surf Club in Myrtle Beach and the Donald Ross Junior in Pinehurst.
