The Kiwanis Club of Elizabethtown is having a can food drive for the month of October. Since our county has suffered so much the club decided to expand their drive and make it an annual event.

The Kiwanians put a challenge out to both East Bladen High School and West Bladen High School. Both, Mrs. Peggy Hester, Principal of West Bladen and Dr. Jason Wray, Principal of East Bladen High School accepted the challenge. The challenge starts today, October 15 and will go through the end of the month.

The challenge is the students of the high schools are to collect can goods (can goods only) for the month of October. The Kiwanians from the Bladen County club will stop by each week at both schools until Oct. 31st to pick the cans up, count them and take them to the Bladen Crisis Center.

Whichever school collects the most cans wins the contest. The Kiwanis Club members will present the winning school with a trophy during half time at the East Bladen verses West Bladen football game. The trophy will be past back and forth each year depending on the winner of the annual contest.
