Tory Hole boat access area remain flooded Friday, Jan. 1.

The flood warning for the Cape Fear River at Elizabethtown Lock and Dam 2 has been extended through Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 6), the National Weather Service said Friday night. The river has been rising for the past several days because of several inches of rain in the region.

The river’s flooding also has closed two boat access areas in Bladen County: Tory Hole in Elizabethtown and Elwells Ferry near Carver’s Creek. On Friday afternoon, the parking lot of the Tory Hole boat access area remained flooded.

The river is expected to crest at the Elizabethtown locks Sunday night at 28.5 feet. Flood stage is 25 feet.

At William O. Huske Locks off N.C. 87 near the Bladen-Cumberland County line, the river was measured at 49.92 feet at 9 p.m. Friday, well above the 42-foot flood stage. The river is expected to crest at the Huske locks Sunday afternoon at 51.5 feet, and remain above flood stage until at least Wednesday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
