The Cape Fear River has crested in Tar Heel and Elizabethtown but is still on the rise in the Kelly community, according to the National Weather Service.

At William O. Huske Lock and Dam No. 3 near Tar Heel crested at a level of 70.75 feet which is two feet higher than the observed level in Hurricane Matthew. The river crested in Elizabethtown on Friday with an observed level of 42.43 feet at 9:45 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. That is six feet higher than the level observed at Elizabethtown following Hurricane Matthew.

At William O. Huske Lock and Dam No. 1 near Kelly, the river was still on the rise and the observed level was 30.62 feet at 9:45 a.m.The flood stage for that section of the river is 24 feet.
