Spread the love

boswellCape Fear Vineyard and Winery has a new chef in the form of Paul Boswell. He comes to Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery after working with several prominent restaurants in the Wilmington area.

Boswell said his most recent appointment was serving as Executive Chef for the Oceanic Restaurant in Wrightsville Beach.  He has worked for LM Restaurants, operators of Oceanic, for about 12 years. Boswell said he began his career working at Blue Water in 2004 and moved to different restaurants to learn from other chefs.

He said LM Restaurants owns a number of eateries in and around Wilmington and the company would shift him around to different locations.

“I took over Eddie Romanelli’s until it closed,” said Boswell.

When asked about his career, Boswell said he got his start at 16 years old working for his uncle at CPWs and Atavola in Greenville. He said that he began there by washing dishes at his Uncle’s restaurants.

He said he discovered his love of cooking as a child when he was in day care. He found that he could go to the kitchen and for some reason, it would calm him down. Boswell said that between the day care and his mom and grandmother, he learned the basics of cooking.

“I polished my skills working with my uncle,” said Boswell.

Boswell said he moved to Bladen County with his fiancee Laurin McNeil, who is from Bladen County. She had accepted a job at Bladen Lakes Primary  School and Boswell said he was driving to Oceanic daily.

Boswell said he learned about Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery’s needs when he decided to have lunch there. He and Alex Monroe, owner of Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery, began talking. Boswell said he came out to the winery a few more  times and the rest as they say, is history.

Boswell has some big plans for the menu at the winery. He said there will be some changes to the lunch and dinner menus. He said they will be adding fresh seafood, adding some farm-to-table menu items, and using local pork and beef when possible.

He said the winery is also preparing for a huge New Year’s Eve party.

Alex Monroe said, “I’m blessed to find somebody of that caliber who lives only ten minutes away.”
