Cape Fear VineyardThere will be a ribbon cutting and wine tasting at Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery on Wednesday, December 21, from 4 until 6 p.m.  Owner Alex Munroe said that people can also tour the grounds of the vineyard and explore the cabins, animals, and lake on the property that evening.

Munroe said there will be seven house wines available for tasting as well as a compliment of hors d’oeuvres prepared by Chef Paul Boswell. Chef Boswell comes to Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery from the Bluewater Grill in Wrightsville Beach.

He said three of the wine selections will feature labels that were created by Bladen County artist Kathy Bunn. One bottle will be called “I, Swanee” which is a white muscadine; “Tory Hole” which features a battle scene on a red muscadine sweet wine; the third label featured is called “Tiger Swallow Tail” which is the North Carolina state butterfly and is featured on a white wine blend.

Bunn will be on hand Wednesday to sign the bottles featuring her labels. When asked how the partnership with Bunn came about, Munroe replied, “She is obviously one of the most noted artists in our area.”

Munroe said he first met Bunn when he moved his business to the Elizabethtown Industrial Park. He said each day he would walk his dog over to the lake to let it run and play and noticed the winery there. Munroe said he also noticed Bunn and a friend would frequent the area and paint. A friendship developed between Bunn and Munroe.

Munroe said he learned the winery was for sale and purchased it. He said he also knew there was need in Bladen County for a nice restaurant, some nice lodging, more entertainment.

He said that as he was developing the wines for the vineyard, he asked Bunn if she would like to create the artwork for the labels and she readily agreed. She also has a painting called “Camellias” which is featured in the Bridal suite on the property.

Bunn said when she was asked to create the labels for the wines, she was honored and excited.  She said the creation of the labels was a collaborative effort. She said Munroe expressed to her his ideas and she was able to create the labels using his suggestions.

Cape Fear Vineyard and Winery is located at 195 vineyard Drive, Elizabethtown inside the Elizabethtown Industrial Park.
